Festivals and Events
Lough Gur Development run two festivals annually. The Summer Solstice festival held in June and a Storytelling festival 2010 which will run from Friday Oct 22nd to bank holiday Monday Oct 25th inclusive. The Summer Solstice festival is a family event aimed at getting the community together to enjoy the solstice and to celebrate as our ancestors did thousands of years ago.
The story telling festival encapsulates all that is unique about story telling with the objective being to retain the art and tradition of storytelling. In the past, pre television, 'Rambling' to neighbouring houses was a popular past time. Locals would ramble to their neighbours and enjoy an evening of storytelling and music. The Lough Gur storytelling festival aims to replicate this tradition by hosting an annual National Schools storytelling competition, which is held in conjunction with the festival. More details here.
