Kathleen Loughnane - played 9th October, 2009
..............kindly sponsored by Ballyhoura Development
The Honeyfitz hosted an intimate and magical evening with Kathleen Loughnane and friends in October. Playing the music of the late 17th century, the evening was truly one to be remembered.
Kathleen Loughnane began playing the harp at an early age and has been based in Galway since 1982. In 1990 she co-founded the group Dordán, an all-female group whose mix of Irish and Baroque
music has received wide acclaim. They received the National Entertainment Award for traditional music in 1993, and Bank of Ireland Award for traditional music in 1995. the group travels widely in
Europe and the US.
Kathleens arrangements for harp have appeared in several publications. In 1995 she published her first collection "Harping On" and was awarded the Dr. Annie Patterson medal at Dublin Feis Ceoil
for her harp arrangements
On the night Kathleen will concentrate on playing the music of the poet harpers Thomas and William Conellan. Thomas Connellan died in Bourchiers Castle, Lough Gur in 1698 and is buried in New Church on the shores of Lough Gur and it will be wonderful to hear his music again in the locality over 300 years later.
Kathleen will be joined on stage by 3 wonderful musicians - Alec Finn on guitar ( founder member of De Danann), Sean Garvey, vocalist (winner of TG4 singer of the year 2006), Cormac Cannon, uileann pipes ( graduate of UL and member of Piopairi Uilleann.
