In Lough Gur we are committee to a Leave No Trace policy. To protect the beautiful environment of Lough Gur we are working towards helping you to Leave No Trace when you visit to ensure that Lough Gur is taken care of for future generations.

Here is some information from the Leave No Trace Ireland website to find out more:

Leave No Trace is an Outdoor Ethics Education Programme designed to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. As increasing numbers of people seek the beauty and  exhilaration of outdoor travel and recreation, our collective mark on the environment and its natural processes increases. Litter, water pollution, disturbance of vegetation, wildlife, livestock and other people are all indicators of the need to develop a national ethic that protects both natural and cultural heritage. Techniques designed to minimise the environmental and social impacts in these areas are incorporated in and promoted by the national Leave No Trace education programme as the following seven principles:

  1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
  2. Be Considerate of Others
  3. Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
  4. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  5. Leave What You Find
  6. Dispose of Waste Properly
  7. Minimise the Effects of Fire
